Last month, we had a conversation with Yousef Bashir after reading his memoir The Words of My Father. It was a beautiful discussion on a beautiful book, and you can watch the recording on our Facebook page.
Yousef Bashir is a Palestinian-American who grew up in the Gaza Strip during the Second Intifada. The Words of My Father records that experience and his relationship with his father as Yousef grew into a young man. A dedicated pursuer of peace, Yousef served as a member of the Palestinian Diplomatic Delegation to the United States and now is the Director of Research and Operations at the S. Daniel Abraham Center for Middle East Peace. Aziza and Andrea talked with Yousef about his memoir and his experience. We have edited the conversation for clarity. We highly recommend reading The Words of My Father or listening to it on audiobook in Yousef’s own voice.
Our NewGround Book Club is a special opportunity for our most generous supporters. Donors who have contributed $1000 or more to NewGround over a lifetime of giving are invited to participate. The relationship-building, community-strengthening work of NewGround is only possible thanks to the engagement of our vast extended family.
Our next session will be on May 23, and we will discuss We Share the Same Sky, a memoir by Rachael Cerotti. Unlike many of our public programs, this conversation will not be recorded.
