With the introduction of a new fiscal year, we welcome our 2021-22 board co-chairs, Rabbi Sarah Bassin and Nurya Shabir! 

Sarah and Nurya are old friends of NewGround, and have been involved in our programming, our events, and our fundraising efforts throughout the years. Of the transition, our outgoing NewGround chair, friend, and ongoing board member Rachel Andres writes:

“I look forward to continuing to serve on the board under the able leadership of the new co-chairs, Rabbi Sarah Bassin and Nurya Shabir. They are no strangers to our work. Rabbi Bassin was the inaugural NewGround Executive Director and now serves as Associate Rabbi at Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills. Nurya Shabir was in our 2nd Fellowship cohort in 2008 and spoke at Los Angeles’ 2019 State of the City Address along with Rabbi Jocee Hudson (my rabbi!) modeling the power of Muslim-Jewish partnership. 

The strength of our work comes from our dedication to do what is right. To step forward even, and especially, when we challenge those closest to us. I hope you will continue to join us in this essential and valuable work.”
