Over the past year, NewGround has done what we can to provide space for all to voice their grief, anger, fear, and frustration. We’ve convened in an effort to build beyond this terrible reality. And we’ve pushed people to take in stories from beyond their community circles, tenderly caring for the pain of Muslims, Jews, Israelis, Palestinians, and all who have been impacted by witnessing a year of death, violence, displacement, starvation, disease and ever-increasing trauma.
So this week, we’re offering spaces for grief. We’re investing in our change-makers. Our message is clear: We must find the will to re-humanize each other. We must recognize the inherent dignity of those who differ from us and slow down our conversations to truly understand one another.
We’d like to invite you in the ways that NewGround is creating space for healing and change this week:
Moments for mourning:
On October 9, NewGround will hold an alumni event titled “Remembering Sacred Lives,” during which we will honor the stories of Palestinians and Israelis who have lived through this year, and those who have not. This will be an interfaith space for deep listening. RSVPhere.
On October 10, we will gather as Palestinians and SWANA community to hold grief and pray together. RSVPhere to receive mid-city location address.
On October 21, we will gather as Jews in the sukkah to express grief and pray with one another. RSVPhere to receive mid-city location address.
