Heba Elzawahry is a family physician with special training in global health, geriatrics and palliative care. She has been passionate about caring for the underserved and vulnerablepopulations. As a geriatrician, she advocates for medical practitioners to address end of life care and sexual dysfunction in the elderly population. She has worked serving the chronically ill, homeless and uninsured communities of the greater Washington DCarea. Through a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration grant, she has helped integrate primary care to the mental ill. She has also worked in inner-city Chicago; in both cities she worked with immigrant communities using her fluent Arabic and Spanish language skills to provide care to the community. She currently works with underserved communities in the West Side of Los Angeles. She offers health care to the homeless and is pursuing a career in end of life care.
Heba balances work in the global health arena where she wears many hats, with her local community work. Through Health Right International, She examines and evaluates victims of abuse and torture seeking asylum within the United States. In Chennai, she started a scholarship to encourage and support women to enter medical school. She has worked in disaster relief providing medical care; in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake and in South India following the tsunami. She has volunteered and lead students to provide care to indigenous populations in Guatemala, Vietnam, Kenya, and Honduras.
She is passionate about human rights, civil liberties, and religious freedom, which lead her to an education trip to Israel with the Shalom Hartman institute. She studied Zionism throught the Hartman Institutes rabbinical school.
